CITIZENS ASKED TO GIVE INPUT ON PROPERTY TAXES

To the Editor:

In the last four years we've seen property taxes go up by nearly $1.5 billion. Since there is no one-size fits all solution to any problem, the Legislature is asking for your help. We'd like to hear your thoughts and suggestions about the best way to provide meaningful property tax relief to the greatest number of Minnesotans.

Last week, the House created a toll-free comment line to provide a way for taxpayers to have a say in how policy-makers tackle rapidly rising property taxes this session. You can offer your input in two ways. You can call The Minnesota Property Tax Comment line at 1-800-551-5520, or you can log onto Minnesota's Property Tax Comment website at www.house.mn/dfl/ptax/propertytaxproject.html. Both the hotline and website are up and running, and I urge all the taxpayers of Brooklyn Center and Brooklyn Park to share their stories about how rising property taxes have affected them by calling the comment line or logging on to the website. You can also share concerns with me by calling my office at 651-296-3709 or email me at Rep.Debra.Hilstrom@house.mn

Property taxes are becoming a heavy burden for homeowners across the state. As your legislator, I want to ensure that we find a way to provide meaningful and long-term property tax relief to Minnesotans. Citizen participation is a critical part of the democratic process and plays a large role in effective policy making. The House is serious about getting property tax relief right. Your input can help us do that.

Sincerely,

Debra Hilstrom
