St. Paul named as Midwestern Legislative Conference 2013 Convention City
At the annual meeting of the Midwestern Legislative Conference of the Council on State Governments, State Representative Alice Hausman was elected as 2012 chairperson. Previously, Rep. Hausman served as officer on the Executive Committee.
Over 500 participants attended the Midwestern Legislative Conference’s annual meeting in Indianapolis. Along with electing Rep. Hausman, the group was briefed by top policy experts and exchanged ideas on how to best address numerous policy challenges facing the Midwest region. In addition, the Midwestern Legislative Conference passed several policy resolutions on a wide range of issues including: agriculture, internet sales, immigration and aquatic invasive species.
“Being chosen to lead this distinguished group is a great honor," said Rep. Hausman. “I am very excited to announce that the 2013 Midwestern Legislative Conference annual meeting is scheduled to be held in St. Paul. It will be a fantastic opportunity to showcase Minnesota’s capital city,” added Rep. Hausman.
The Midwestern Legislative Conference is a regional association of state legislators representing 11 Midwestern states and four Canadian provinces. All 1,550 Midwestern state legislators — as well as lawmakers representing the affiliated Canadian provinces of Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario and Saskatchewan — are eligible to participate in Midwestern Legislative Conference activities. Members of the Council on State Governments include every elected and appointed state and territorial official in the United States.
Rep. Hausman has also been involved with the Midwest Interstate Passenger Rail Commission that was formed with the help of the Midwestern Legislative Conference.
