Saint Paul In a ceremony on February 8th, the League of Conservation Voters awarded Representative Alice Hausman (DFL-Saint Paul) its 2005 Environmental Leadership Award. Rep. Hausman was one of only two Legislators, out of 201 members of the House and Senate, to receive a rating of 100% from the organization.
It is an honor to be recognized by the League of Conservation Voters," Rep. Hausman said. I firmly believe that a prosperous future for our state relies upon wise stewardship of our natural resources, and I always try to represent that principle in the Legislature. I am very happy to know that others think that I am doing a good job.
The League of Conservation Voters conducts its rating of all members of the Minnesota Legislature on conservation issues every year. The most recent ratings were based upon six votes taken during 2004, ranging from rules governing feedlots to restrictions on the use of All Terrain Vehicles in wetlands. According to the League, only Rep. Hausman and Rep. Jean Wagenius (DFL-Minneapolis) made pro-conservation votes in all six cases.
We have important work to do in this area during the current legislative session, as well, Representative Hausman said. One crucial thing we should do is expand transit options in the Metro-area, to relieve traffic congestion and allow people to drive less.
