Saint Paul, Minnesota – This evening, the GOP-led State House attempted to pass HF 959, a bill that would allow for a limited amount of bonding projects to be funded. Needing at least 81 votes for passage, the bill failed 76-57. State Representative Alice Hausman, DFL-Lead on the House Capital Investment Committee, issued the following statement:
“Investing in Minnesota’s infrastructure is an essential part of rehabilitating and sustaining our economy. At a time when Minnesotans are looking for work, a comprehensive bonding bill would provide jobs in the construction, architectural, engineering, and trade industries across the state.
When it comes to bonding, timing is of the essence. Not only would a stronger bonding bill address economic needs at the present time, but currently, interest rates are low. This means that taxpayers would be getting more for their dollar.
Looking to the future, we need to focus on passing a more extensive bonding bill that will create jobs and invest in our state’s infrastructure, providing vast opportunities for economic growth."
