Bonding is not political, it's personal

The House Capital Investment Committee met for the first time today to discuss Governor Mark Dayton’s recommendations for statewide bonding projects. Non-partisan fiscal analysts estimate his proposal could create as many as 30,000 jobs, as well as make significant improvements to statewide infrastructure.

State Rep. Alice Hausman, former chair of the Capital Investment Committee and DFL Lead on bonding had this to say about the importance of passing a bonding bill this session:

“State economists and business experts agree that a targeted Capital Investment bill is one of the most effective ways to put people back to work and spur economic recovery. This legislation has the potential to put a paycheck in the hands of thousands of Minnesota families – many who haven’t seen one for months.

Critics compare bonding to “using the state credit card". It is actually much more like taking out a mortgage on your home. Our state and its vast resources is our home, and we need to do everything we can to defend it from deteriorating, improve its usefulness for our citizens and protect its clean air and water.

I implore my fellow legislators to move beyond politics and pass a responsible bonding bill by the spring construction season. To the men and women who will be put to work, their families, and the businesses that will benefit, bonding is not political, it’s personal.”
