At a meeting of the Capital Investment Working Group today, House and Senate members proposed a scaled back version of a bonding bill that includes several projects requested by Governor Pawlenty, including $36 million in funding for a sex offender treatment facility at Moose Lake. It also contains language to allow for a higher purchase price for land acquisition for a new state park at Lake Vermillion which was previously approved in a 2007 bonding bill.
After the meeting, State Representative Alice Hausman, chair of the House Capital Investment Committee released the following statement.
“While we would have preferred to meet the Governor face-to-face and in a transparent way, we believe we’ve written a bill that contains all of the Governor’s requested items, including lifting the cap at Lake Vermillion, which is very important to him.
Our goal was to put all of the Governor’s items in and cut below what the original House, Senate and conference report came in at. We’ve done that - including all of the Governor’s priorities that he’s given us to date.
Additionally, we’ve cut a number of projects that were very important to us – a painful process, but one we were willing to do in order to get a bill that can be signed."
