Gov. Dayton’s budget
Dear Neighbor,
A House committee heard Gov. Mark Dayton’s tax-and-spend budget bill this week. His proposal is so flawed even members of his own party are voting against it.
The governor’s bill would jack up our taxes by $2.5 billion to help cover his proposed $7 billion increase in state spending. Three Democrats in the tax committee joined all Republicans in voting against his bill.
Maybe the governor will come to the table and participate in the budget process now that we have reconfirmed the lack of support for his proposal. A series of bills the Legislature passed to erase our $5 billion budget shortfall without raising taxes is being reviewed by conference committees and we welcome the governor’s participation, but he has been a no-show at the budget table to this point.
It would be helpful if Dayton would show the leadership you expect from a governor. I will keep you posted as things develop the next few weeks.
Sincerely,
Tom
