LET’S FIX THE MISTAKE

By Tom Hackbarth
State Representative

Last year the Democrats pushed through several pieces of legislation at the last minute. Some of this legislation had some very negative consequences, with one of them being the changes to Green Acres.

The changes that were made resulted in people being charged thousands of dollars more on their property taxes. It has many people wondering how they are going to come up with the extra $15,000, $30,000 or even more that some have seen their property tax bill increase by.

House Republicans are working to fix the mistakes made last year, and to save people the worries and extra burden they are facing. We need to repeal the changes that were made last year. By fixing our mistakes we can save counties and the taxpayers a lot of money.

But every attempt Republicans have made in fixing this problem has been shot down by the Democrats. Instead of working to fix mistakes, they’re working to stick taxpayers with a higher bill. They have no sense of urgency of making the wrongs right when it comes to this issue. They have been dragging their feet on every attempt we have made to correct it.

We have tried to offer amendments on the House Floor. We have tried to bring the bill up for a quick and speedy vote. We have tried to advance these fixes through the committee process. All we have gotten from the Democrat Majority is a lot of talk and no action.

While the Democrats continue to drag their feet, taxpayers are worrying about how they will pay the extra bills. With Minnesotans suffering, the Democrats want to sit around and pretend nothing is wrong. Minnesotans are looking for leadership, and all the Democrats are providing are excuses.

It’s time to fix the problems that were made last year. Let’s move forward with repealing the changes to Green Acres.
