Greetings from the Capitol,
A while back I sent out a Pre-Session survey to gather the opinions of the people I represent in St. Paul. I like to hear your feedback and to gauge your thoughts and support for or against various issues. Your responses help me to better carry out what my duties and do what is best for everyone in our district.
I have completed tabulating the results and wanted to share them with you. Here they are:
1. Some Capitol insiders are predicting Minnesota could face a projected $2 billion budget deficit when lawmakers return in January. To solve this problem, should the Minnesota Legislature:
Reduce Spending 77.6%
Utilize a combination of spending cuts and tax increases 21.5%
Raise Taxes 0.8%
2. Are you willing to pay higher taxes so state government can provide universal health care coverage?
No 85.2%
Yes 14.8%
3. Do you support the Constitutional tax increase for arts and cultural heritage?
No 92.3%
Yes 7.7%
4. Should Minnesota end the ban on constructing new nuclear energy facilities?
Yes 80.6%
No 19.4%
5. Should illegal immigrants have access to state government health care and welfare benefits?
No 98.2%
Yes 1.8%
6. Should public funds help finance the construction of a new Vikings Stadium?
No 92.6%
Yes 7.4%
I’d like to give a special thank you to everyone who took the time to complete and return the survey. As always I would encourage you to continue to contact me throughout this legislative session to voice your opinions on the issues our state is facing.
Sincerely,
Tom
