NEWS COLUMN

GET OUT AND CAST A LINE

After months of lengthy floor debates and being cooped up indoors I have the itch to get out and fish. Being in the outdoors is a great chance for me to relax and enjoy the best of what Minnesota has to offer.

I am looking forward to going up to Pequot Lakes with the Governor this year for his annual fishing opener. That will be a great chance to unwind for a weekend before final push to the end of session.

Even though it’s only 37 degrees outside right now, and we appear to be in the midst of the winter that seems I still look forward to the coming spring. I can’t wait to get out there, and I hope to see many of you on the lakes this summer.

Also, the DNR has announced some fishing opener dates for various seasons. They are as follow:

May 10 - Lake Trout, Walleye, sauger, and northern pike. May 10, 11 is also “Take-a-Mom Fishing Weekend”
May 24 – Large and smallmouth Bass
June 6, 7, 8 - Take-a-Kid fishing weekend
June 6 - Muskellunge (Muskie)
September 8 - Smallmouth Bass - 2008 catch and release season
