IF THEY CAN’T RAISE TAXES, THEY’LL RAISE ENERGY COSTS

By Tom Hackbarth
State Representative

It seems the Democrats are getting very creative in their ways to take away our freedoms. Now they are using one of the greatest lies of the decade to raise taxes, raise the cost of our electric bills, and push more job creators out of Minnesota.

Today the House debated a bill that moves us one step closer to a “cap and trade” system, which spells disaster for Minnesota. Based upon the false premise that global warming is man made, the Twin Cities Liberals are trying to make every one pay more. The cap and trade system is a hidden tax scheme that collects money for various welfare programs and other government functions. We do not need higher taxes, and we do not need more government programs!

The cap and trade system would choke our economy, by increasing fuel prices and utility rates and limiting electricity generation to the point of brown outs. Forcing electric utilities and refineries to purchase the ability to “pollute” will only result in steep price increases to ratepayers’, commuters, homeowners and business owners.

When they bring this bill forward based on sketchy “facts” it should cause everyone to stop and think. Especially when as in this case, the “facts” are being proven incorrect. With reports out by some of the leading world scientists saying that global warming is the biggest hoax of this decade why are the Democrats trying to force these mandates on everyone?

Perhaps they want to get these regulations before people realize the hoax that global warming truly is. They want to find ways to take more of your money. They want to make more regulations on businesses. They want to increase operating expenses for companies. They want to take more money out of your wallet.

We must not let that happen. Let’s stand up together. Let’s work for our freedoms. Let’s work to keep our money. Personal freedom and limited government. Those are the values we share. Those are the values I will fight for.
