On Friday, February 8, I represented the Minnesota House at a transportation summit at the White House. Our focus was on a national strategy to reduce congestion throughout our transportation network. Gridlock on the highways, in the air and at seaports costs the economy $200 billion every year and 2.3 billion gallons of fuel.
We talked about what is working and what is going to have to change in the future. At the state level, we need to support projects that clearly result in less congestion and to consider cutting-edge transportation trends that take advantage of modern technology to improve the system. We can learn from the lessons of other states and apply them to Minnesota in ways that benefit us. There is no question we have to solve the gridlock problem. What we need is to find the commitment to bring us toward a solution.
