Speaker of the House Margaret Anderson Kelliher has appointed State Representative Jim Davnie to a new Green Jobs Task Force.
In a letter to Davnie announcing the appointment, Speaker Kelliher expressed her confidence that Davnie would "serve the public interest well in this new capacity."
The task force, created by the 2008 Legislature is charged with creating a statewide action plan to capitalize on projected growth within the new "green economy." The task force will look for opportunities where state government can stimulate new or existing economic development in the areas of renewable energy, energy efficiency and conservation, and greenhouse gas reduction. Projects that meet criteria developed by the task force will be eligible for certain grants to be administered by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development.
"This task force is an important step in positioning Minnesota as a leader in the new energy economy," said Rep. Davnie. "Backed by strong support we can send a signal to the markets that Minnesota is open and ready for green business, just as we did when we passed the nation-leading renewable energy standard and next-generation energy act. I'm honored to play a role in that effort."
