ST. PAUL - State Representative Jim Davnie was pleased with the news this week that the City of Minneapolis has been awarded a Contamination Cleanup grant from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) for the site of the Longfellow Station Redevelopment Project.
"I'm pleased that DEED recognized how important this project is to future economic development in Minneapolis," said Davnie, chair of the House Labor and Consumer Protection Committee, and a key advocate in pursuing the grant funding. "This grant helps clear the way for future-looking, mixed-use transit-oriented development that will revitalize that neighborhood."
The $265,000 grant will be used to cleanup the development site and prepare it for construction. Contamination cleanup will consist of asbestos and lead-based paint abatement and soil remediation. The first phase of the planned development will include 300 units of housing, commercial space, structured parking and pedestrian connections.
"This kind of redevelopment project is truly exciting for Minneapolis," said Davnie. "It will offer flexible, efficient and connected housing options that are fully integrated within existing neighborhoods – it's a winning situation."
