ST. PAUL - Minnesota House Speaker-designate Margaret Anderson Kelliher on Monday named State Representative Jim Davnie (DFL-Minneapolis) to chair the Labor & Consumer Protection Division of the House Commerce and Labor Committee when the Legislature reconvenes this January.
Davnie is a leading consumer and privacy advocate in the Legislature and founder of the DFL Caucus Consumer Privacy and Identity Theft Taskforce. He's also been a staunch advocate for working Minnesotans since being elected in 2000, receiving a lifetime rating of 99% on labor issues from the AFL-CIO.
Davnie said taking the helm of this committee presents a good opportunity to review and strengthen protections for workers and consumers.
"I'm looking forward to working with my colleagues and the Governor to make policy that keeps Minnesotans safe in the workplace and ensures their consumer rights are protected," Davnie said. "I want the committee to be a forum for new ideas to accomplish these priorities.
Rep. Davnie joins a group of House committee chairs that represent every part of Minnesota.
"We wanted to make sure that all of the important policy discussions that occur in Minnesota have a home within the legislature," Speaker-designate Kelliher said.
