NEWS RELEASE

REP. DAVIDS SAYS FURTHER REFORM NEEDED DURING 2012 SESSION

ST. PAUL – With the 2012 Legislative Session now underway, State Representative Greg Davids (R-Preston) said there is much work to accomplish over the next few months, and much of it will center on state government reform.

“We took some good first steps towards reform at the end of last session, and now it’s time to continue this progress,” Davids said.

Davids noted that reform was necessary last session in order to help balance the budget. With a $5.1 billion deficit, many changes needed to be made in order to force state government to be more accountable to the taxpayers.

Last November, economic experts projected that Minnesota now has a nearly $1 billion surplus on its hands, no doubt resulting from some of the decisions made in 2011.

Davids said this session’s legislative agenda, called Reform 2.0, will continue finding less costly ways of doing state business, as well as promoting ideas that improve our education and health care systems, and create a more business-friendly economic climate.

“Few would argue that state government does some things well, and some things poorly,” Davids said. “This is the reason legislative leadership travelled the state and asked for resident input on how to improve state government. The result is Reform 2.0, and I look forward to debating and implementing the people’s agenda over the next few months.”
