REP. DAVIDS’ WISCONSIN RECIPROCITY TAX PLAN HEADED TO HOUSE FLOOR

ST. PAUL – A comprehensive tax reform proposal that restores Minnesota’s reciprocity agreement with Wisconsin will soon be debated on the floor of the Minnesota House of Representatives.

The bill is being championed by State Representative Greg Davids (R-Preston), who serves as the chairman of the Minnesota House Taxes Committee.

“Thousands of Minnesotans saw their taxes increase when the Governor terminated the reciprocity agreement with Wisconsin,” Davids said. “Solving this problem is one of my top legislative priorities, as it unfairly targets many simply because they live here and work across the border.”

Davids said his omnibus tax reform proposal, which was approved on a bipartisan basis recently in the House Taxes Committee, includes several other notable provisions including:
• A fix to the Green Acres law, which had been problematic to landowners and assessors
• The ˝ percent Lanesboro sales tax, which would be used for infrastructure improvements
• Tax reductions for Minnesota’s lower and middle class residents
• Property tax relief for Minnesota’s Main Street business owners
• A tax exemption for the Southern Minnesota Power Association, which plans to build a power plant in Fairmont and would ultimately help meet southeastern Minnesota’s energy needs
• The removal of sales tax on water used by community fire departments in order to battle blazes

“There are many good, common sense proposals in this package that will benefit residents in southeastern Minnesota,” Davids said. “I look forward to continued bipartisan support for this bill when it reaches the House floor in the coming days.”
