Rep. Jim Abeler Meets With Local Seniors
ST. PAUL—Representative Jim Abeler hosted his 11th annual Senior Fair this past Thursday at the Anoka County Government Center. Attendees met with Rep. Abeler and discussed their views and concerns, as well as learned about community resources including Meals on Wheels, Anoka County Housing, and the Anoka County Older Worker Program.
“This year’s Senior Fair was a thorough success,” said Abeler. “My conversations with the seniors are very valuable. I was also pleased to connect seniors with the resources and services in our community that can help them stay in their own homes longer, find health care support, get meals delivered, find respite care for their caregiver, and much more.”
When Rep. Abeler began the Senior Fair in 1998, it was part of his overall goal to serve his constituents and make connections. “I wanted to collaborate with the people I represent, just as I collaborate with other lawmakers in the legislature, to address problems and find real solutions.” While over the years political, economic, and social landscapes have varied, the Senior Fair has remained a constant and effective way for local seniors and their neighbors to get informed and get involved.
