State Representative Paul Torkelson has joined the growing number of legislators calling forr a change in the new committee structure in the Minnesota House Representatives.
Torkelson says he was surprised to learn that majority Democrats got rid of the Agriculture Finance Committee, and will require that all ag spending bills go through the Environment and Natural Resources Finance Committee.
The greatest concern is the power that committee chair, Representative Jean Wagenius will have in shaping agriculture-related legislation. Wagenius - from Minneapolis - has a long legislative track record of being less than supportive of family farms.
