So much for working together.
A week after pledging to work with minority Republicans, the House Rules Committee voted against an amendment by Representative Rod Hamilton that would have leveled the agriculture playing field in Minnesota.
Monday's committee vote fell strictly along party lines, and has jeopardized the chances that any ag appropriations bills would become law in the 2013 session.
The new DFL majority axed the Agriculture Finance Committee, and will direct all ag spending bills through the less-than-friendly Environment and Natural Resources Finance Committee, and its chair, Representative Jean Wagenius, Wagenius is the first Minneapolis representative to chair a committee that has the final say on ag-related issues.
The Rules Committee action left Representative Hamilton and his supporters wondering what ag initiatives - if any - will pass through Wagenius' committee this session.
