Overview

This act requires sudden infant death and shaken baby syndrome training to address reducing the risk not just for infants, but for children through age 5.

 

Section

 

1         

Sudden infant death and shaken baby syndrome for child foster care providers.  Amends § 245A.144.  Adds that this required training is to address reducing the risk of sudden infant death and shaken baby syndrome in infants and young children through five years of age.

2         

Training on risk of sudden infant death syndrome and shaken baby syndrome by other programs.  Amends § 245A.1444.  Adds that this required training is to address reducing the risk of sudden infant death and shaken baby syndrome in infants and young children through five years of age.  This section applies to licensed chemical dependency programs that serve clients with young children who sleep at the program, and licensed children’s residential facilities.

Sudden infant death syndrome and shaken baby syndrome training.  Amends § 245A.40, subd. 5.  Adds that sudden infant death syndrome training for child care providers must be at least one-half hour long and completed at least once every five years.  Requires the training to address risk factors and how to reduce incidents of sudden infant death syndrome.  Instructs the license holder to talk with parents about reducing the risk of sudden infant death syndrome.

Sudden infant death syndrome and shaken baby syndrome training.  Amends § 245A.50, subd. 5.  Adds that shaken baby syndrome training for child care providers must be at least one-half hour long and completed at least once every five years.  Requires the training to address risk factors and how to reduce incidents of shaken baby syndrome.  Instructs the license holder to talk with parents about reducing the risk of shaken baby syndrome.
