Overview

This act is the annual update in motor fuel specifications recommended by the Department of Commerce Weights and Measures Division. One of the division’s duties is to make sure that motor fuels sold in the state meet current industry standards. Those standards are frequently updated by the ASTM International, formerly named American Society for Testing and Materials. The ASTM gives a new number to each new or updated standard, and state laws need to be updated to allow the Weights and Measures Division to enforce the new standards.

In addition to routine updates in the ASTM numbers, this act (section 9, subdivision 1) adds a definition of biodiesel fuel of between 6 percent and 20 percent, and adds the ASTM specification number for that blend.
