Special elections to fill the two vacant House seats have been scheduled for Feb. 12. If necessary, a primary for each race would be held Jan. 29.

The elections are needed to fill the terms of former Rep. Steve Gottwalt (R-St. Cloud) and former Rep. Terry Morrow (DFL-St. Peter). Each resigned Monday because of full-time employment changes. Gottwalt was elected to represent House District 14A and Morrow to the House District 19A seat.

The candidate filing period will begin Wednesday and continue until 5 p.m. Jan. 15. Candidates can file with their respective county auditor or at the Office of the Secretary of State in St. Paul.

The 2013-2014 legislative session began Tuesday when 132 House members were sworn into office.

Candidate and special election information will be posted on the office website at www.sos.state.mn.us.
