Staff Coordinator - House Research Department

House Research is accepting applications for a Staff Coordinator. This position is only open to current or former legislative staff. Staff Coordinators have three major areas of responsibility: (1) to function as a Legislative Analyst in assigned subjects (providing expert and impartial legislative services and policy and legal research services to House members and committees); (2) to coordinate work and mentor other Legislative Analysts in assigned subjects; and (3) to perform or manage the performance of assigned departmental services and administrative functions. Specific Staff Coordinator duties include: advising the Director, participating in staff hiring and performance evaluation, reviewing and editing Legislative Analyst publications, temporarily staffing additional subject areas and committees as needed, leading or participating in interim office projects, and working collaboratively with the Director and other Staff Coordinators on vacation scheduling and other needs as part of the Department’s management team.

The job requires extensive and in-depth experience and knowledge of: legislative processes and functions; legislative staff services; bill and amendment drafting; statutory and legal analysis; policy research; and state government agencies and operations. Also required: excellent oral and written communications and human relations skills; project and organizational planning, management, and administration skills; and the ability to supervise highly skilled professionals from diverse disciplines doing complex and sensitive work as impartial analysts in a legislative setting. Advanced degree required.
