Legislative Assistant - House Research Department

Available to current or former legislative employees only.


Regular full-time position, with benefits, for a nonpartisan legislative research office, serving the entire Minnesota House of Representatives. (For further information on the House Research Department, see http://www.house.mn/hrd/.)

Legislative Assistants provide high-quality support services and administrative assistance to Legislative Analysts and assist with the data entry and technical production of bill drafts, amendments, bill summaries, department publications, memos, PowerPoint presentations, graphs/maps, etc.

Candidates should be motivated, nonpartisan individuals who have excellent administrative and interpersonal skills, and who can work well under pressure and as part of a team. Successful candidates must value confidentiality and professionalism.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

Accuracy, good command of grammar, excellent proofing skills, and attention to detail

Excellent PC skills and knowledge of Microsoft Word 2013 Suite and experience with spreadsheet, graphics, and/or mapping software

Typing speed of 60 wpm

Ability to prioritize work in order to meet deadlines

Self-motivated and willingness to learn

Entry salary: $1,554.00 semi-monthly, commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits. Some unscheduled overtime required during legislative session.
