The Fiscal Analysis Department of the Minnesota House of Representatives is seeking applicants for a full-time Fiscal Analyst position. The primary issue for this position maybe elementary and secondary education. The Department is a non-partisan office responsible for providing quantitative and policy analysis services for the House fiscal committees and all House members. Fiscal Analysts review, appraise and evaluate state fiscal and program operations and budget proposals for state government programs and agencies. Fiscal Analyst responsibilities include budget development and oversight, projecting anticipated spending and revenues for budget proposals, tracking fiscal information, and providing staff support for committees. Applicants should be experienced in budget processes, fiscal management practices, and policy development.
To be considered, an applicant must have at least a BA/BS degree; master’s degree or other advanced training and familiarity with the legislative process is preferred. Training and experience in basic statistics, quantitative research and analysis, program evaluation, and knowledge of and experience with state government financing and policy issues are important. Experience with spreadsheets and word processing skills are necessary. Strong oral and written communication and human relations skills are a must as well as the ability to communicate complex information to people from diverse backgrounds.
