Assistant Sergeant-at-Arms - Sergeant at Arms


The Sergeant-at-Arms Department of the Minnesota House of Representatives is currently recruiting for two full-time Assistant Sergeant-at-Arms.

These nonpartisan positions are responsible for keeping order in committees and on the House floor during the legislative sessions; directing Pages covering committees and the House floor sessions; planning, coordinating and promoting the High School Page Program; coordinating the College Intern program; providing training on House floor procedure in the chamber; and assisting with a variety of special projects. Position is also responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and reports for the House Post Office; and generating reports and maintaining computerized databases for the department.

This position requires excellent oral and written communication skills and attention to detail; proven ability to manage projects and teams; experience managing situations or projects requiring confidentiality and privacy; excellent oral and written communication skills; and the ability to work effectively with a variety of people essential. Knowledge of the legislative process a plus. Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and database experience preferred.

Must be available to work long and irregular hours. Must be up to date on first aid and CPR or be willing to achieve certification within 6 months of hire. BA/BS desired.

Entry salary: $1,924.81 semi-monthly commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits.
