The Minnesota House of Representatives Sergeant at Arms' Office is pleased to announce preparations for the 2016 Internship Program are underway, and we are ready to begin accepting applications. Intern placement will begin in early February of 2016. Interns can expect to start at the beginning of the legislative session in early March.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
An internship at the Minnesota House gives students an opportunity to use their knowledge and talents in a professional setting, while acquiring new skills and further knowledge of the political process. Over the course of an internship, participants are asked to handle a wide variety of duties essential to the legislative process and designed to provide them with a valuable educational experience. Some of these responsibilities include:
POLICY ON COMPENSATION
Interns do not receive a stipend or compensation for their services. Internships at the Minnesota House of Representatives are entirely volunteer-based, providing interns the opportunity to engage in a rewarding educational experience.
APPLICATION AND PLACEMENT
The Minnesota House of Representatives Internship Program offers internships during the course of regular legislative session and we begin accepting applications in the fall of each year. Applicants are encouraged to submit application materials starting in mid-November to allow staff time to review and place interns. However, there is no firm application deadline and applications will be accepted and reviewed on an ongoing basis.
The House Sergeant at Arms' Office works with both students and members to place prospective interns. Intern selection and placement considers students' educational and professional abilities and goals as well as the needs of members and participating House departments.
