MINUTES
Representative Marquart, Chair of the Committee on Education Finance, called the meeting to order at 8:15 AM, January 31, 2013 in Room 10 of the State Office Building.
The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

Representative Newton moved the minutes of January 30, 2013 be adopted.
THE MOTION PREVAILED.
The following groups and testifiers presented information:
Minnesota School Counselors Associations - Tom Tillberry;
Minnesota Rural Education Association regarding the University of Minnesota Center for Reading Research, authentic intellectual work, and modifying the school week - Fred Nolan and Sam Walseth;
AchieveMpls regarding college and career readiness strategies - Pam Costain, Executive Director;
Osseo Public Schools regarding achievement gap solutions - Kate Maguire, Superintendent and representative of the Minnesota Association of School Administrators and Kim Riesgraf, Assistant Superintendent;
Minnesota Business Partnership and Minnesota Chamber of Commerce regarding high school and post-secondary alighment and best practices - Jim Bartholomew and Amy Walstien;
State Representative Glenn Gruenhagen presented information regarding the promotion of self-actualization in public schools;
North Saint Paul Public Schools regarding all-day kindergarten - Jim Miklausich, Principal, Delene Sanders, teacher, and Jenna Peters, teacher and coach;
Members' questions and comments were addressed throughout the presentations.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:47 AM.
