1.5"(c) The commissioner of public safety is required to issue drivers' licenses and
1.6Minnesota identification cards with the veteran designation only after entering a new
1.7contract or in coordination with producing a new card design with modifications made
1.8as required by law.
1.9EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective August 1, 2009, and applies to
1.10drivers' licenses and Minnesota identification cards issued as stated in paragraph (c).

1.11    Sec. 3. Minnesota Statutes 2008, section 171.12, is amended by adding a subdivision
1.12to read:
1.13    Subd. 5a. Veteran designation. When an applicant for a driver's license, instruction
1.14permit, or Minnesota identification card requests a veteran designation under section
1.15171.06, subdivision 3, the commissioner shall maintain a computer record of veteran
1.16designations. The veteran designation may be removed from the computer record only
1.17upon written notice to the department. The veteran designation is classified as private data
1.18on individuals, as defined in section 13.02, subdivision 12."
