MINUTES

Representative Alice Hausman, Chair of the Housing Finance and Policy Division, called the second meeting to order at 8:04 A.M. on Wednesday, January 23rd, in room 200 of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

A quorum was present at 8:04 A.M.

Representative Theis moved adoption of the January 16, 2019 minutes.
THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Allison Streich, Deputy Director at Carver County CDA and Homes for All Co-Chair, and Senta Leff, Executive Director at Minnesota Coalition for the Homeless and Homes for All Co-Chair, presented on statewide affordable housing needs and gave an overview of housing advocacy in Minnesota.

Monica Nilsson, a homelessness advocate with Safe Group, provided personal testimony.

Sandy Hennum, Rachel Hanford and Joy Goode, Shelter Advocates at Village of Hope, provided personal testimony.

Buffy Beranek, Deputy Executive Director at Southeast Minnesota Multi-County Housing and Redevelopment Authority (SEMMCHRA), provided a brief overview of potential solutions related to the Governor’s Task Force Goals.

Ryan Vernosh, Principal at Maxfield Elementary School, presented on the impacts of homelessness in his school and potential solutions.

Jeff Washburn, Executive Director of the City of Lakes Community Land Trust, presented how land trust opportunities can help solve affordable housing needs.

Jordan May, Executive Director of the Red Lake Homeless Shelter, gave a brief overview of his shelter and provided personal testimony.

Julie Jeppson, Executive Director at Stepping Stone Emergency Housing, and Michelle Pontrelli, a shelter advocate at Stepping Stone Emergency Housing, gave an overview of their initiative and provided personal testimony.

Barbara Lightsy, a City of Lakes Community Land Trust Homeowner, provided personal testimony.

The meeting adjourned at 9:30 A.M.
