MINUTES

Representative Cheryl Youakim, Chair of the Committee, called the meeting to order at 2:34 PM on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 in Room 5 of the State Office Building. A quorum was present.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

Representative Erickson moved to approve the minutes for the Tuesday, February 19, 2019 meeting with a technical correction. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

HF55 (Jurgens) – School meal provisions modified.

Representative Youakim moved that HF55 be laid over for possible inclusion in an omnibus bill.

Representative Jurgens introduced HF55.

Jessica Webster, Legal Aid, testified in support of HF55.

Colleen Moriarty, Hunger Solutions Minnesota, testified in support of HF55.

Representative Youakim renewed the motion that HF55 be laid over for possible inclusion in an omnibus bill. THE BILL WAS LAID OVER.

HF575 (Huot) – Unclaimed drugs or medications in schools disposal provided.

Representative Huot moved that HF575 be laid over for possible inclusion in an omnibus bill.

Representative Huot introduced HF575.

Susan Nokleby, Licensed School Nurse, testified in support of HF575.

HF576 (Kunesh-Podein) – School districts required to pay the cost of a college course entrance exam for all students in grade 11 or 12, funding provided to reimburse districts for college entrance exams, and money appropriated.

Representative Youakim moved that HF576 be referred to the Ways and Means Committee.

Representative Kunesh-Podein introduced HF576.

Susan Knutson, School Counselor in Eden Valley-Watkins, testified in support of HF576.

Josh Downham, Minneapolis Public Schools, testified in support of HF576.

Representative Youakim renewed the motion that HF 576 be referred to the Ways and Means Committee. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

HF20 (Erickson) – Intermediate school districts statures renumbered.

Representative Erickson moved that HF20 be laid over for possible inclusion in an omnibus bill.

Representative Erickson introduced HF20.

Representative Youakim renewed the motion that HF20 be laid over for possible inclusion in an omnibus bill. THE BILL WAS LAID OVER.

HF209 (Kunesh-Podein) – School testing materials expenditures required, and report to the legislature required.

Representative Kunesh-Podein moved that HF209 be laid over for possible inclusion in an omnibus bill.

Representative Kunesh-Podein introduced HF209.

Denise Dittrich, Minnesota School Boards Association, testified on HF209.

Rick Heller, Unofficial Twice Exceptional and Print Disabled, testified on HF209.

Representative Youakim renewed the motion that HF209 be laid over for possible inclusion in an omnibus bill. THE BILL WAS LAID OVER.
