MINUTES


Representative Bob Dettmer, Chair of the Veterans Affairs Division, called the meeting to order at 12:59 PM on February 26, 2018, in Room 5 of the State Office Building. A quorum was present.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

Chair Dettmer introduced the new Adjutant General, Jon A. Jensen, to the Committee.

Adjutant General Jensen addressed the Committee and took questions from members.

HF2908 (Wills) Rosemount; U.S. Highway 52 designated as Warrant Office Dennis A. Groth Memorial Bridge.

Chair Dettmer moved HF2908 be re-referred to the Transportation and Regional Governance Policy Committee.

Representative Wills presented HF2908.

Chair Dettmer renewed his motion that HF2908 be re-referred to the Transportation and Regional Governance Policy Committee. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

HF2869 (Howe) National Guard members provided access to information regarding state-sponsored life insurance program.

Chair Dettmer moved HF2869 be re-referred to the Committee on Commerce and Regulatory Reform.

Representative Howe presented HF2869.

Chair Dettmer renewed his motion that HF2869 be re-referred to the Committee on Commerce and Regulatory Reform. THE MOTION PREVAILED.



HF2907 (Howe) Data sharing permitted to administer the disabled veteran's homestead market value exclusion.

Chair Dettmer moved HF2907 be re-referred to the Committee on Civil Law.

Representative Howe presented HF2907.

Jerry Kyser, Chair, United Veterans Legislative Council, testified in favor of HF2907.

Chair Dettmer renewed his motion that HF2907 be re-referred to the Committee on Civil Law. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Vice Chair Bliss assumed the gavel at 1:41 PM.


HF2788 (Dettmer) School counselors required to receive training in armed forces career options, school counselors required to inform students of armed forces career options, and school districts encouraged to grant military recruiters access to secondary students.


Representative Dettmer moved HF2788 be re-referred to the Committee on Education Innovation Policy.

Representative Dettmer moved the 2788A-1 Amendment. THE AMENDMENT WAS ADOPTED.

Representative Dettmer presented HF2788, as amended.

Captain Young Youn, U.S. Army, St. Paul Recruiting Company, testified in favor of HF2788, as amended.

Major Andrew Nicholson, CO, Marine Corps Recruiting Twin Cities, testified in favor of HF2788, as amended.

Chair Dettmer assumed the gavel at 2:33 PM.
