MINUTES


Representative Kahn, Chair of the Legacy Committee, called the meeting to order at 2:15 P.M. on February 19, 2013 in Room 5 of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

A quorum was present at 2:20 P.M.

Erika Rivers, Assistant Commissioner, Department of Natural Resources, gave an overview of the Work Group Consensus Recommendations in the Parks and Trails Legacy Funding Project Report.

Representative Wagenius moved that the minutes of February 12, 2013 and February 13, 2013 be adopted. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Jeff Schoenbauer, Lands, Planning and Design Consultant, on behalf of the Greater MN Regional Parks and Trails Coalition (GMRPTC), gave an overview of their strategic plan including the key recommendations of the GMRPTC report.

Tom Ryan, Director, Olmstead County Parks and Recreation and member of the Legacy Funding Committee, testified in support of the Parks and Trails Legacy Funding Committee Work Group Consensus Recommendation.

Emmett Mullin, Department of Natural Resources, presented a letter from Robert Bierscheid, member of the Parks and Trails Legacy Funding Work Group, in support of their Consensus Recommendation.

Al Lieffort, Park Superintendent in the Public Works Department of Douglas County, on behalf of the Greater Minnesota Regional Parks and Trails Coalition, testified that he wholeheartedly supports the Consensus Recommendation of the Parks and Trails Legacy Funding Work Group. He also presented a letter of support from Chuck Wocken, Sterns County Park Director and participant in the Parks and Trails Legacy Funding Committee. Mr. Lieffort then gave a summary of the report Visitor Counts and Origin Survey Pilot Tests conducted by the GMRPTC.



The meeting was adjourned at 3:47 P.M.
