EDUCATION REFORM

MINUTES

A quorum was present and Representative Erickson, Chair of the Education Reform Committee, called the meeting to order at 8:15 AM on February 28, 2012, in the Basement Hearing Room of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

Representative Barrett moved that the minutes from the committee meeting on February 23, 2012, be approved. THE MOTION PREVAILED AND THE MINUTES WERE APPROVED.

SF 1073 (McFarlane) School districts transition planning for high school students to successfully pursue postsecondary education and employment; school districts adequate student-to-counselor ratio encouragement.

Chair Erickson moved that SF 1073 be recommended to pass and referred to the General Register. Representative McFarlane moved the S1073A1 amendment. THE MOTION PREVAILED AND THE AMENDMENT WAS ADOPTED. Representative McFarlane presented the bill and stood for questions.

The committee heard testimony on the bill.

Chair Erickson renewed the motion that SF 1073, as amended, be recommended to pass and referred to the General Register. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

HF 2325 (Doepke) School districts prohibited from holding school on the Thursday and Friday before Labor Day.

Chair Erickson moved that HF 2325 be recommended to pass and placed on the General Register. Representative Doepke explained the bill and stood for questions.

The committee heard testimony on the bill.
