MINUTES


Representative Carlos Mariani, Chair of the K-12 Education Policy & Oversight Committee, unofficially called the twenty-seventh meeting to order at 8:35 AM on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 in the basement hearing room of the State Office Building.

HF1212 (Brown)—A bill for an act relating to education; modifying deaf or hard of hearing resource center+ provisions; amending Minnesota Statutes 2008, section 125A.63, subdivision 2, 4.

Rep. Brown presented HF1212.

Chair Mariani officially called the meeting to order at 8:45 AM. A quorum was present.

Chair Mariani moved that HF1212 be recommended to pass and referred to the committee on Finance, with a recommended re-referral to the K-12 Finance Division.

Ms. Mary Hartnett, Executive Director, Commission Serving Deaf, Deaf-Blind, and Hard of Hearing Minnesotans, testified to the amendment.

Chair Mariani renewed his motion that the above oral amendment be adopted. THE MOTION PREVAILED. THE AMENDMENT WAS ADOPTED.

Chair Mariani laid over HF1212 for possible inclusion in the K-12 Education Policy Omnibus bill.

Rep. Kath assumed the gavel at 8:55 AM.

HF1538 (Mariani) - A bill for an act relating to education; fostering educational innovation to improve student and school performance; amending Minnesota Statutes 2008, section 126C.10, subdivision 2; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 120B.

Rep. Mariani moved that HF1538 be recommended to pass.

HF575 (Simon) (first engrossment)—A bill for an act relating to driver’s licenses; modifying driver education requirements for obtaining an instruction permit; amending Minnesota Statutes 2008, section 171.05, subdivision 2.

Chair Mariani moved that HF575, first engrossment, be recommended to pass and referred to the Committee on Finance, with a recommended re-referral to the K-12 Finance Division.
