MINUTES



Representative Carlos Mariani, Chair of the K-12 Education Policy & Oversight Committee, called the thirteenth meeting to order at 8:36 AM on Thursday, February 12, 2009 in the basement hearing room of the State Office Building.

A quorum was present.

Rep. McFarlane moved that the minutes of February 11, 2009 be adopted. THE MOTION PREVAILED. THE MINUTES WERE ADOPTED.

Ms. Cynthia Stevenson, project coordinator of the Metro Region Math and Science Teacher Center, Ms. Deb Rykken, math specialist at Centennial Middle School, and Dr. Mike Lindstrom, trainer at Metro Region Math and Science Teacher Center, presented on the Math and Science Teacher Academies.

Questions and discussion followed.

Ms. Liesl Chatman, director of professional development at the Science Museum of Minnesota, and Mr. Larry Thomas, Science Museum of Minnesota, presented on the Science Museum of Minnesota’s teacher professional development.

Ms. Cyndy Crist, Board Chair of SciMathMn, and Dr. William Schmidt, Michigan State University, presented on setting priorities for STEM education in Minnesota and the recommendations from the TIMSS participation.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:07 AM.
