MINUTES


Representative Carlos Mariani, Chair of the K-12 Education Policy & Oversight Committee, called the sixth meeting to order at 8:36 AM on Wednesday, January 28, 2009 in room 200 of the State Office Building.


The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll:

A quorum was present.

Chair Mariani presented the agenda for the next two hearings.

Rep. Newton moved that the minutes of January 27, 2009 be adopted. THE MOTION PREVAILED. THE MINUTES WERE ADOPTED.

Chair Mariani asked the committee to write down their thoughts as to the purpose of the GRAD test, and the purpose of a high school exit exam.

Dr. Rick Spicuzza, South Washington County Schools, presented on the substantive and procedural considerations on high school exit exams.

Questions and discussion followed.

Dr. Brenda Casselius, Associate Superintendent, Minneapolis Public Schools, presented on the high school exit exams at the school district level.

Dr. John Robert Warren, Associate professor of Sociology, University of Minnesota, presented on state high school exit exams and educational and labor market success.

Questions and discussion followed.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:03 AM.
