MINUTES


Representative Carlos Mariani, Chair of the K-12 Education Policy & Oversight Committee, called the third meeting to order at 8:35 AM on Thursday, January 15, 2009 in the Basement hearing room of the State Office Building.

Rep. Doekpe moved that the minutes of January 13, 2009 be adopted. THE MOTION PREVAILED. THE MINUTES WERE ADOPTED.

Ms. Lisa Larson, House Research, presented the history of No Child Left Behind.

Ms. Beth Aune, Director of Academic Standards and P-16, Minnesota Department of Education, presented Minnesota’s K-12 academic standards.

Questions and discussion followed

Ms. Michelle Walker, Chief Accountability Officer, St. Paul Public Schools, and Evelyn Belton-Kocher, Director of Research, Evaluation, and Assessment, presented on student assessments on a state and school district level.

Rep. Brynaert, and Mr. Tom Boatman, Supervisor of Assessment and Testing, Minnesota Department of Education, presented on the Minnesota Growth Model.
