MINUTES


Representative John Ward, Co-Chair of the Committee, called the meeting to order at 2:45PM on February 26, 2009, in Room 10 of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

A quorum was present.


HF779 (Rukavina) A bill for an act relating to education finance; eliminating a requirement for contracted school food service vendors to make certain deficit payments.

Representative Ward moved HF779 be laid over for possible inclusion in the Omnibus K-12 Education Finance Bill.

Representative Rukavina and Polly Podpeskar, Innovative Nutrition for the Arrowhead Community, testified.

Public testimony on HF779 was provided by the following individuals:
Sherri Knutson, Coordinator of Student Nutrition, Rochester Public Schools
Elaine Keefe, Lobbyist, Minnesota School Nutrition Association

Representative Ward renewed his motion that HF778 be recommended to be laid over for possible inclusion in the Omnibus K-12 Education Finance Bill.

A quorum was present at 2:50pm.

Representative Garofalo moved the minutes of February 25, 2009 be adopted.
THE MOTION PREVAILED.


HF252(Benson) A bill for an act relating to education finance; increasing the state reimbursement for school lunch aid from 12 to 15 cents per meal.

Representative Ward moved HF252 be laid over for possible inclusion in the Omnibus K-12 Education Finance Bill.

Representative Ruud presented HF252 on behalf of Representative Benson.

Representative Ruud, Elaine Keefe, Lobbyist, Minnesota School Nutrition Association, and Sherri Knutson, Coordinator of Student Nutrition, Rochester Public Schools, testified.

Representative Ward renewed his motion that HF252 be recommended to be laid over for possible inclusion in the Omnibus K-12 Education Finance Bill.


HF784 (Newton) A bill for an act relating to education finance; increasing the state reimbursement for reduced price school lunch meals from 12 to 52 cents per meal.

Representative Newton moved HF784 be laid over for possible inclusion in the Omnibus K-12 Education Finance Bill.

Representative Newton, Jessica Webster, Lobbyist, Legal Aid, and Susan Richardson, Director of Nutrition Services, Roseville Schools, testified.

Public testimony on HF784 was provided by the following individuals:
Elaine Keefe, Lobbyist, Minnesota School Nutrition Association

Representative Newton renewed his motion that HF427 be recommended to be laid over for possible inclusion in the Omnibus K-12 Education Finance Bill.
