MINUTES


Representative Jean Wagenius, Chair of the Committee, called the meeting to order at 8:04 A.M. on March 6, 2007, in Room 5 of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

Representatives Swails, Bigham, and Bunn were also present.

John Linc Stine, Director of Environmental Health Division, Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), provided testimony on the topic of the department's new guidelines for PFOA, PFOS, and PFBA in drinking water.

Dr. Helen Goeden, Toxicologist, MDH, testified on the development of the new health-based values.

A quorum was present at 8:07 A.M.

Dr. Katherine Reed, Staff Vice President, Environmental, Health and Safety Operations, 3M, testified on the topic of 3M’s actions relating to perfluorochemical contamination of east metro drinking water.

Dr. Larry Zobel, Medical Director, 3M, provided testimony on the topic of perfluorochemical contamination in east metro drinking water.

Mike Sandusky, Director of Environmental Analysis and Outcomes Division, Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA), testified on the MPCA’s role in cleanup of perfluorochemical contamination in the east metro.

Dr. Laura Solem, Toxicologist, MPCA, testified on the health effects of perfluorochemicals.

Vice Chair Doty assumed the gavel at 9:28 A.M.

Len Price, Executive Director, Minnesota Conservation Corps (MCC), presented the MCC budget and programs.

Sara Wuorinen, MCC volunteer, testified on her experience working for the Corps.

Adrienne Wuorinen, mother of Sara, testified on the merits of the MCC program.

HF 538 (Peterson)

Representative Dill moved HF 538, appropriating money for the Minnesota Conservation Corps.

Representative Peterson presented HF 538.

Len Price testified in support of HF 538.

Representative Dill renewed his motion to lay the bill over for possible consideration.



The meeting was adjourned at 9:45 A.M.
