MINUTES


Representative Mindy Greiling, Chair of the Committee, called the meeting to order at 2:20PM on January 18, 2007, in Room 10 of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

A quorum was present.

Representative Erickson moved the minutes of January 17, 2007 be adopted.
THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Dr. Darlyne Bailey, Dean of the College of Education and Human Development, and Special Assistant to the President, University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, introduced a power point presentation about the achievement gap.

Dr. Cathy Jordan, Director, Children, Youth and Family Consortium, discussed approaching the achievement gap as multi-faceted.

Dr. Blong Xiong, Associate Professor, Postsecondary Teaching and Learning, discussed how families have an influence on the achievement gap.

Dr. Arthur Reynolds, Professor, Institute of Child Development, discussed the achievement gap from an early childhood standpoint.

Dr. Gillian Roehring, Assistant Professor, discussed the achievement gap from a science/STEM standpoint.

Dr. Deborah Dillon, Professor, Curriculum and Instruction, discussed the achievement gap from a reading/literacy standpoint.



The meeting was adjourned at 3:45PM.
