MINUTES


Representative Kent Eken, Chair, called the meeting to order at 4:08 P.M. on Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007, in Room 5 of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

A quorum was present.

Representative Scalze moved that the minutes of January 18th, 2007 be adopted. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

The following people gave an overview presentation of soil and water conservation districts and answered questions from the committee:

LeAnn Buck, Minnesota Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts
Steve Sutherland, Chippewa County Soil and Water Conservation District
Brian Watson, Dakota County Soil and Water Conservation District

The following people gave an overview presentation of watershed districts and answered questions from the committee:

Ray Bohn, Minnesota Association of Watershed Districts
Warren Seykora, Wild Rice Watershed District
Barbara Haake, Rice Creek Watershed District

Announcement - Bills previously referred to Game, Fish, and Forestry Division by memo:

HF 74 (Hansen) Great Lakes; President and Congress memorialized, by resolution, to protect the Great Lakes from aquatic invasive species

HF 145 (Hansen) Lake Superior oceangoing vessels ballast water discharge regulation established, rules required to set treatment and management standards, and formation of Great Lakes basin coalition required

HF 247 (Kranz) Wild animal removal from urban areas provided

HF 278 (Hansen) Deer license surcharge imposed for deer management and reimbursing the cost of processing deer donated for charitable purposes, and money appropriated

HF 285 (Severson) Soldiers, veterans, and peace officers exempted from requirements relating to state firearms safety certificate as a prerequisite to purchasing a hunting license
