MINUTES


Representative Carlos Mariani, Chair of the E-12 Education Committee, unofficially called the twentieth meeting to order at 12:39 PM on Friday, March 16, 2007, in room 10 of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll:

HF 1887 (Slawik)— A bill for an act relating to education; providing for a hearing loss early detection intervention coordinator; appropriating money; amending Minnesota Statutes 2006, section 125A.63, by adding a subdivision.

Rep. Slawik presented HF 549.

Chair Mariani officially called the meeting to order at 2:42 PM. A quorum was present.

Rep. Slawik moved that HF 1887 be recommended to pass and re-referred to the Committee on Finance, with a recommended re-referral to the K-12 Finance Division.

Testifying on behalf of HF 1887 was:

Ms. Rhonda Sivarajah, Parent, Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Advisory Committee

Questions and discussion followed.

Rep. Slawik renewed her motion that HF 1887, be recommended to pass and re-referred to the Committee on Finance, with a recommended re-referral to the K-12 Finance Division. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Rep. Dittrich assumed the gavel at 1:00 PM.

HF 2085 (Mariani) -A bill for an act relating to education; appropriating money for the quantum opportunities program.

Rep. Mariani moved that HF 2085 be recommended to pass and re-referred to the Committee on Finance, with a recommended re-referral to the K-12 Finance Division.

Rep. Mariani presented HF 2085.

HF 1092 (Anzelc) -A bill for an act relating to education; modifying the Online Learning Option Act; amending Minnesota Statutes 2006, sections 124D.095, subdivisions 3, 4, 7, 8; 124D.096.

Chair Dittrich moved that HF 1092 be recommended to pass and re-referred to the Committee on Finance, with a recommended re-referral to the K-12 Finance Division.

Rep. Dittrich moved the A07-0348 amendment. THE MOTION PREVAILED. THE AMENDMENT WAS ADOPTED.

Rep. Anzelc presented HF 1092, as amended.

Rep. Mariani assumed the gavel at 1:25 PM.

HF 2023 (Erickson) - A bill for an act relating to education; directing the commissioner of education to convene an advisory task force to consider and recommend a redesign of middle schools; appropriating money.

Rep. Erickson moved that HF 2023 be recommended to pass and re-referred to the Committee on Finance, with a recommended re-referral to the K-12 Finance Division.

Rep. Erickson presented HF 2023.

Questions and discussion followed.

Rep. Erickson renewed her motion that HF 2023, as amended, be recommended to pass and re-referred to the Committee on Finance with a recommended re-referral to the K-12 Finance Division. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Rep. Welti moved the minutes from March 15, 2007. THE MOTION PREVAILED. THE MINUTES WERE ADOPTED.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:16 PM.
