Representative Carlos Mariani, Chair of the E-12 Education Committee, called the seventeenth meeting to order at 2:36 PM on Friday, March 9, 2007, in Room 200 of the State Office Building.

Rep. Mariani moved that HF 1197 be recommended to pass and re-referred to the Committee on Finance, with a recommended re-referral to the K-12 Finance Division.

Chair Dittrich moved said technical oral amendments be incorporated into H1197A5.

Rep. Mariani renewed his motion to adopt the H1197A5 amendment, as amended. THE MOTION PREVAILED. THE AMENDMENT WAS ADOPTED.

Ms. Lisa Larson, House research, suggested a technical oral amendment to the H1197A5 amendment.

Page 2, after line 5, insert '"Sec. 7. [123B.485] Nonpublic Transcripts.
A nonpublic school that receives services or aid under sections 123B.40 to 123B.48 must not charge a fee to a person serving active military service under section 190.05, subdivision 5, who requests that the nonpublic school transmit a copy of the person's transcript to a postsecondary institution or prospective employer. The nonpublic school may request reasonable proof of the service member's current military status." '

Rep. Greiling moved the oral amendment to the H1197A5 amendment. THE MOTION PREVAILED. THE AMENDMENT WAS INCORPORATED.

HF 1699 (Peterson, S.) -A bill for an act relating to education; establishing a grant program to provide additional student counseling services in high-need public high schools; appropriating money.

HF 779 (Bly) - A bill for an act relating to Native American languages; establishing the Office of Indigenous Language; appropriating money; amending Minnesota Statutes 2006, section 3.922, by adding a subdivision.

Chair Mariani moved that HF 779 be recommended to pass and re-referred to the Committee on Finance.

Chair Mariani moved the A07-0235X delete-all amendment. THE MOTION PREVAILED. THE AMENDMENT WAS ADOPTED.

Rep. Benson moved that HF 234 be recommended to pass and re-referred to the Committee on Finance, with a recommended re-referral to the K-12 Finance Division.

HF 1425 (Holberg)—A bill for an act relating to education; ensuring students' ability to participate in league-sponsored activities after completing licensed treatment programs; amending Minnesota Statutes 2006, section 128C.02, subdivision 5.

Chair Mariani moved that HF 1425 be recommended to pass and to be placed on the General Register.

Rep. Erickson moved the H1425DE1 delete-all amendment. THE MOTION PREVAILED. THE AMENDMENT WAS ADOPTED.
