Representative Carlos Mariani, Chair of the E-12 Education Committee, called the eighteenth meeting to order at 8:02 AM on Tuesday, March 13, 2007, in the basement hearing room of the State Office Building.

HF 1794 (Slawik)— A bill for an act relating to education; providing for children's early literacy; appropriating money; amending Minnesota Statutes 2006, section 199A.50, by adding a subdivision.

Rep. Slawik moved that HF 1794 be recommended to pass and re-referred to the Committee on Finance, with a recommended re-referral to the K-12 Finance Division.

HF 420 (Ward)—A bill for an act relating to education; providing for statewide health and physical education requirements; directing the Education Department to post approved local school wellness policies on the department Web site; establishing a grant program to implement local school wellness policies; authorizing rulemaking; appropriating money; amending Minnesota Statutes 2006, sections 120B.021, subdivision 1; 120B.023, subdivision 2; 120B.024; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 121A.

Rep. Ward moved that HF 420 be recommended to pass and re-referred to the Committee on Finance, with a recommended re-referral to the K-12 Finance Division.
