MINUTES


Representative Carlos Mariani, Chair of the E-12 Education Committee, called the eighth meeting to order at 8:05 AM on Thursday, February 8, 2007, in the basement hearing room of the State Office Building.

A quorum was present.

Rep. Gottwalt moved that the minutes of February 6, 2007 be adopted. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Overviews of issues related to testing and assessment.

Ms. Lisa Larson, House Research Analyst, gave an overview of three documents prepared by House Research relating to testing and assessment: "Federal and State Testing Requirements for K-12 Public School Students," "States' Analysis of Student Performance Under No Child Left Behind Act," and "Adequate Yearly Progress Under the No Child Left Behind Act."

Dr. David Heistad, Executive Director of Research, Evaluation and Assessment, Minneapolis Public Schools

“Student Assessment" presented by:
Dr. Christopher Balow, Assessment and Evaluation Coordinator, Stillwater Area Public Schools

“Testing and Its Impact on Learning" presented by:
Ms. Becky Schroeder, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, South Washington County Schools

“Testing in Minnesota Schools" presented by:
Dr. Rick Spicuzza, Director of Research, Evaluation, and Assessment, South Washington County Schools



The meeting was adjourned at 9:31 AM.
