MINUTES


Rep. Andy Westerberg, Chair of the Regulated Industries – Gaming Division, called the sixth meeting to order at 2:40 p.m. March 16, 2005 in Room 5 of the State Office Building.

The Clerk noted the roll.

Members present:

Members excused: NONE

A quorum was present.

Rep. Hilty moved approval of the minutes for March 15, 2005. The motion prevailed.

Rep. Westerberg addressed the committee about the committee schedule for Friday, March 18.

HF 1817 (Westerberg) Lottery gaming machines and games operation provided at a gaming facility, license and fee provided, gaming transaction fee imposed.

Rep. Westerberg moved that HF 1817 be brought before the committee for discussion.

The following individuals testified before the committee:

Dan McElroy, Chief of Staff, Office of Governor Tim Pawlenty

Rep. Westerberg reminded committee members that a 24-hour rule was in effect for submission of amendments scheduled for hearing on Friday, March 18, 2005.

HF 1664 (Buesgens) Lottery gaming machines provided, contracting for placement of machines authorized, horse racing purse payments established, tax on machines and card club revenue imposed, and blackjack and other card games authorized.

Rep. Erickson moved that HF 1664 be brought before the committee for discussion.

The following individuals testified before the committee:

Randy Sampson, President, Canterbury Park

HF 1042 (Rukavina) Video lottery terminals authorized, state lottery director duties and powers provided, and revenue uses specified.

Rep. Westerberg moved that HF 1042 be brought before the committee for discussion.

The following individuals testified before the committee:

Rep. Tom Rukavina
Ken Rockler, Executive Director, Tavern League of Minnesota

Colin Meinhart, Minnesota Licensed Beverage Association

Rep. Westerberg noted that fiscal notes had been requested for all bills before the committee.

Rep. Westerberg reminded committee members of the 24-hour rule for amendments in preparation for the March 18, 2005 committee meeting.

The meeting was adjourned at 4:15 p.m.
