COMMITTEE ON HIGHER EDUCATION FINANCE

MINUTES


Representative Bud Nornes, Chair of the Committee on Higher Education, called the eighteenth meeting to order at 12:36 PM on Monday, March 21, 2005, in Room 300S of the State Office Building.

The Clerk noted the roll.

12:36:10 PM Chair Nornes unofficially called the meeting to order.

Dr. Frank Cerra, Senior Vice President, Academic Health Center (see attached)
12:47:09 PM A quorum was present
12:47:22 PM Chair Nornes officially called the meeting to order.
12:47:45 PM Dr. Frank Cerra continued his presentation.
1:22:31 PM Professor Doris Taylor, Director of the Center for Cardiovascular Repair (showed two hearts)
1:46:03 PM HF629 (Kelliher) University of Minnesota health professional programs funding provided and money appropriated.
1:47:04 PM Rep. Mariani moved HF629 for possible inclusion in the Higher Education Finance Omnibus Bill.
1:47:43 PM Rep. Kelliher presented her bill. Testifying were:
1:48:53 PM Peggy Martin, Director of Occupational Therapy at the University of Minnesota (see attached), supported the bill.
2:00:02 PM Dr. Karen Karnie, Professor Emeritus and former program director of the Medical Technology program (see attached), supported the bill.
2:07:57 PM Kirk Allison, Associate Director, Program in Human Rights and Medicine, University of Minnesota, (see attached) supported the bill.
2:17:48 PM Rep. Lyndon Carlson requested a copy of the University of Minnesota's policy on closing programs. Chair Nornes said he would like the information for the whole committee.
2:19:28 PM CHAIR NORNES LAID HF629 OVER FOR POSSIBLE INCLUSION IN THE HIGHER EDUCATION FINANCE OMNIBUS BILL.
2:19:33 PM Rep. Cox moved approval of the minutes: March 16, 2005. THE MOTION PREVAILED.
2:19:43 PM Chair Nornes adjourned the meeting.
