The House passed a bill Monday that would allow towns to give money to community food shelves.
The bill would put towns on the same level as counties and cities when it comes to being allowed to provide grants to nonprofits that run community food shelves. It would allow the town’s governing body to use money from the General Fund or any other unrestricted money for these grants.
The latest numbers are a $517 million swing from the November forecast
The state’s latest economic forecast projects a budget deficit of $188 million for the current two-year biennium, and a $586 million deficit for the 2020-21 biennium
